Why solve without memorisation?
Learning to solve Rubik's Cube without the aid of memorised sequences is certainly much more difficult than just memorising the answers. So why bother doing it the hard way?
My own motivation was to discover the cube's secrets, to be able to actually solve it rather than recite memorised answers, and to solve it efficiently. If you have similar goals, then this method might be for you. If not, you may instead prefer this Beginner's Rubik's Cube Solution.
Where should I begin?
If you want to jump straight into it, here are the solution steps. However, in order to master these steps, you may need to first study the sections on cube theory and fundamental techniques.

19/Jan/2008A new version of the Rubik's Cube Simulator has been uploaded to hi-games.net supporting larger cubes up to 10x10x10 with highscores.
27/Dec/2007Rubik's Cube Chat is a new chat program with a live Rubik's Cube, useful for showing people cube moves over the Internet. It's a slightly late Christmas present ;-)
03/Nov/2007If you have a highscore on the Rubik's Cube Simulator, you can now embed a replay of your highscore into your webpage, like so:

There is now a forum-style interface to all of our community mailing lists at CubeOosan. This is similar to GMANE and The Mail Archive although more forum-like than those.
24/Jan/2007GACube is a graphical frontend to Josef Jelinek's excellent ACube solver program.
21/Jan/2007I have made a special version of the Rubik's Cube Simulator that allows you to practice specific steps in your solution. It works by allowing you to input a set of generators, and will produce random scrambles from those generators.
It may be difficult to get the hang of, but it can be a very useful training tool.
22/Dec/2006Added "permalinks" to the simulator. This makes it possible to link directly to your solve.
For example, here is a permalink to my record solve.
21/Dec/2006This one's for the blindfolded cubists: Blindfolded Rubik's Cube Simulator. Merry Christmas :-)
20/Aug/2006Wrote a new page describing the history of Rubik's Cube solving techniques and their evolution over the years.
02/Aug/2006Updated my Rubik's Cube solution page with more examples and a new structure.
26/Jul/2006BETA 1 of the Multi-player Rubik's Cube Simulator is released.
27/Jun/2006Added rolling averages to the cube simulator.
18/Jun/2006The maximum rotation speed on the cube simulator has now been increased from 6 moves/sec to about 9 moves/sec, this in response to some of the faster cubists complaining that my applet can't turn as fast as they can think :-)
The new code works by increasing the speed of rotation only when there is a backlog of moves to be animated. This means that if you move slowly, it will animate slowly, and if you move quickly, it will animate quickly.
12/Jun/2006Created the Cube Database, an interactive database of move sequence. Its goal is to show different ways of performing sequences through computer animation.
19/May/2006Added high scores to the cube simulator.
14/May/2006Here's a new speed cubing "simulator" (for office use).
I have tried to make the keyboard bindings closely resemble the way our fingers interact with real cubes. For example, your index fingers are used to trigger U and U'. "Sune" becomes IJKJIJJK.
It is also possible to perform two moves simultaneously, provided that they move around the same axis.
My best time so far is about 1:28.29
